  • If you began donating blood at the age of 17 and donated every 56 days until you reached the age of 76, you would have donated 48 gallons of blood.
  • There is no upper age limit for giving blood.
  • Each unit of blood you donated can help save the lives of three different people.
  • In the United States, a blood transfusion is needed about every two seconds.
  • One in 10 people entering the hospital need blood.
  • Up to 12 tests, nine of which are for infectious diseases, are performed on each unit of donated blood.
