Disaster Services Intern

 

Title: Disaster Services Intern

Report To: Director of Disaster Services,

 

Job Summary:

This position provides a college student interested in Emergency Management the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the non-profit, non-government area of Emergency Management.  The student selected for this position will receive training in Mitigation/Planning, Response and Recovery from disasters, natural or manmade.  The student will be take an active role in the development of a Emergency Sheltering and Volunteer Database .

 

The student will actively participate in the development of department resources both human and material.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

  1. Develop computer based tracking tools for department statistics.
  2. Develop database for tracking of volunteer resources and their training.
  3. Develop database for tracking and requirements of Emergency Shelters within nine-county area.
  4. Prepare and coordinate materials for various projects.

 

Education/Experience:

 

  1. One or two years of college level course work.

 

Skills/Abilities:

 

  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Strong organizational and planning skills.
  3. Detail oriented.
  4. Strong computer skills in word processing and database development.
  5. Must have excellent character, professional appearance and ability to work effectively as a team member.

 

Terms of Employment:

 

  1. Volunteer, Un-paid position
  2. Part time position, flexible with school schedule
