Health and Safety Public Relations Intern

 

Title: Health and Safety Intern

Report To: Health and Safety Director

 

Position Summary:

Primary responsibilities of this position include support to the health and safety director in areas such as media communication, event planning and research. Duties also include support of health and safety office activities and tasks often vary upon demand.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in answering and making phone calls

1.     Coordinate media mailings/faxing/e-mails

2.     Special event planning and management

3.     Maintain and update health and safety web-site using Front Page

4.     Research and construct press releases, articles and news stories

5.     Assist in the design of print materials

6.     Copy and edit materials

7.     Maintain a media contact database

8.     Assist in the placement of ad’s and PSA’s

9.     Proofread and adjust written materials

10.   Develop speeches for certain events

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    1.     Effective writing skills

    2.     Organized and a close attention to detail

    3.     Ability to multi-task

    4.     Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Front Page)

    5.     Good listener, ability to take directions and complete task

    6.     Ability to use creativity in all aspects of the position

    7.     Strong desire to learn

    8.     Commitment to the mission of the American Red Cross and an understanding of its goals and objectives

    9.     Skills to use a computer and adaptability to learn new programs

    10.    General knowledge of formal business communication

 

Terms of Employment

    1.     Volunteer, un-paid position

    2.     Temporary position

    3.     Hours will be tracked and credit will be granted from the intern’s university according to university policy.
